1 comments 3:51 PM I am terrible at updating this. The huge issue here is that I cannot stand looking at my own work (of any form or medium) if it's more than three months old. And a fair lot of this fits into that category. This results in a lack of updates, because it's like, "Ew, everything on Skarlet is so old. I can't look at it." That should change. Maybe soon, maybe not. News: I was accepted (as of yesterday) into the Fashion Design program at my school. I am going to do this.

2 comments A few have asked me to update, so here I am. Christmas is quickly approaching and with it the new year, and I must say.. I am welcoming 2008 with open arms and a large sense of anticipation. I was accepted into the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and will be attending this coming January.

2 comments I left the house at 7:30 AM for my morning run, which has been an every day or every alternate day thing for a while now. Damansara is pretty in the morning.. the air is brand-new and crisp and the neighbours are friendly. Sometimes I think I'm the only young person in my street. I ran past a corner semi-detached house where I used to spend my afternoons, you know, those distant days when my age was still represented by a single digit. Mrs. Rajah's tuition centre. She used to make my family the best chicken curry ever and every Deepavali she would give us muruku in Milo tins. She used to throw kids parties with clowns and magicians. She ingrained the art of long division in my head. I don't really know when it happened but she died a few years back and when my mother told me over the phone I wanted to cry and cry, but I couldn't because, well I was in the boarding school common room and I just couldn't. Today I stared at her empty home: nothing but grey cement where her white dog Tiger used to sleep, nothing but bare tile where her cili padi plants used to thrive, nothing but stark white wall where her TV console and a picture of Ganesh the Hindu elephant god used to be. I stood there for a good ten minutes. Whenever I think about someone who knew me well from my past I ask myself what they would think of me now. And whenever I have the chance to meet an old friend the observations are the same: I am the same. And in some ways I am and in other ways I am changing. But I'll keep the good things about me so if we ever lose touch and you see me again in ten years' time, you will recognise those things and say to me, "Your hair is different, but you're still the same old Jasmine Chong." Sidenote: I painted an apple, then I ate it. I also painted the front of one of my sketchbooks.

3 comments I am in New York. All is well, in the loosest interpretation of that word. I had a good bus trip and a good dinner. I am going to eat my crispy duck leftovers from Haru in a few. Interviews begin Monday. Send good wishes my way!

2 comments Amsterdam & Haarlem, The Netherlands ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Holland was very nice, although the weather was not always at its best, as you can see from the pictures above. We arrived in Brugge, Belgium today and had a late dinner at the Grote Markt. All the chocolate shops in the area were closed by the time we arrived so the chocolate sampling shall commence tomorrow. I am in awe at how gorgeous Brugge is. I'm so glad we decided to return for a second trip.

1 comments So far it has been lovely. We are staying in a town called Haarlem and everything is so foreign and beautiful to me. It sort of reminds me of the book 'Girl With A Pearl Earring', which is probably a huge tourist comparison cliche, but this is very true. I am a tourist and I am not afraid to embrace it! I wish I could post pictures, however I am writing this from an internet cafe and not my laptop. Let me just mention that everything is in Dutch. I sure as hell hope 'Bericht Publiceren' is the Dutch equivalent of 'Post Entry''. I also consumed raw fish (not the Japanese variety) and pickles. It was surprisingly tasty. Five minutes remain and I doubt the things I could write in 5 minutes would be of much entertainment value, so I shall end here. Till my next internet cafe excursion. If I can tear myself away from cheese and raw fish.

7 comments I could have waited till I got to Europe to finish this, but it was just one of those things I could not leave unfinished. So here it is. My new domain. Maybe I won't be the only person checking this thing out. Doubtful, though. I leave for the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Belgium in approximately a day. I may or may not have access to the internet (I'm hoping the former rather than the latter) so there is a possibility that this little area will be updated. I do plan on it. After my Eurotrip, I will be in the United States for interviews with several design schools. I have no idea what to wear. Wish me luck.
